Frequently Asked Questions

My device doesn't show up in the list

Make sure your device is powered on and within Bluetooth range (typically under 30 feet). Try toggling "Faster Scanning" off in Settings — some devices advertise slowly and can be missed with fast scanning. You can also enable "Show Unnamed Devices" in Settings to see all nearby BLE devices.

What types of devices does FindMyBlue work with?

FindMyBlue works with any Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) device — Fitbit trackers, Tile, AirPods, Apple Watch, smart home sensors, and many more. It does not work with classic Bluetooth devices (like older headphones).

What's the difference between Simple and Advanced mode?

Simple mode shows device names, friendly distance text, and signal bars. Advanced mode adds UUIDs, raw dBm values, sort options (Signal/Name/Time), and access to the Map view with direction finding.

How does audio tracking work?

When you tap a device to select it, FindMyBlue plays a beep every time it detects the device's signal. The pitch is mapped to signal strength — higher pitch means closer. You can search by ear with your phone in your pocket.

What is Indoor Mode?

Indoor Mode adjusts the sensor fusion engine to rely more on Bluetooth signal strength and less on GPS, which is less accurate inside buildings. Enable it in Settings when searching indoors.

The distance reading seems inaccurate

Bluetooth signal strength is affected by walls, reflections, device orientation, and interference from other devices. The distance is a best-effort estimate. For the most reliable tracking, use the audio pitch and "Getting Warmer/Colder" feedback rather than the exact distance number.

How do I use the Heatmap?

Select a device, then tap Map in the bottom bar. Walk slowly around the area — a heatmap builds in real time showing where signal is strongest (green) vs weakest (red). The green crosshair marks the estimated device location. Use the color slider to adjust contrast.

What is calibration?

Every Bluetooth device transmits at a different power level. Calibration measures the signal at multiple distances to build a custom profile for your device, giving you more accurate distance readings and better heatmaps. In Advanced Mode, select a device and tap Calibrate — then just walk away from it slowly.

Does FindMyBlue collect my data?

No. FindMyBlue has zero analytics, zero tracking, and zero cloud services. Everything runs locally on your iPhone. See our Privacy Policy for details.
